The film acting course is mainly practical. All students will carry out many exercises in front of the camera and in the spotlight just like in a real movie set.
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED IN THREE YEARS
In the first step, in order to break down the invisible wall that stands between the camera and the performer, the actor is placed into the mechanism of the film language that, with its visual fragmentation, often makes it difficult to understand the entirety of the work during the production. Acting in a set requires knowledge of the technical means used for shooting: the camera, the lights, the microphones may limit the ability of an actor, who needs to be confident and concentrated even in a crowded set.
During this first year the focus will then move on all the tools that the actor will use to play a character (voice, body, eyes …), and since every pupil has specific and unique characteristics, the teachers will analyze each student’s innate abilities, the most developed ones and those that are in need of further development. In particular:
– The stage presence
– One’s self image
– The voice (study of vocal tones, the whispers, the shouted, study of “dirtying”)
– The body (expressive potential of every part of it)
– The glance (an essential tool for the film actor)
– Strengthening of the actor’s charisma (energy of gestures, energy of the lines, energy of glances)
– Concentration and abandon exercises
– Improvisation
– Exercises on texts from successful films
– The invisibility of technical means
– The visual fragmentation (filming, editing, tracking shot, various takes ….)
The second phase is developed in two years. After the technical part and the artificiality of the staging, the actor will have to surrender to a deep path which will lead him to a journey in the various human types. A travel (sometimes strenuous) in search of feelings, emotions, moods, psychology of the various characters that the students will face during the course and also in the short films that the filmmaking students will realize. In particular:
– The staging: the study of paths, the movements, the expressive synthesis.
– Analysis and study of the text
– The subtext
– The listening
– The dialogue
– The monologue
– Live recording
– Dubbing
– Exercises in style (All those inner processing and extreme moods that the actor will have to develop with rigor and imagination to get as far away as possible from the stereotypes. Acting is the art of feeling, and this path must be original and deep in accordance with the expressive features of each actor and actress…)
